A Statement

We opened CrossFit Basepoint just over a year ago in May 2019 after spending five years progressing from members to coaches to owners. What we loved about CrossFit was the community as it was welcoming, supportive and friendly. We felt like we were part of a family.

We strongly disagree and are incredibly disappointed with the comments and actions of CrossFit CEO Greg Glassman, as well as CrossFit HQ’s handling of the situation. It is clear that Glassman does not embody any of the values, ethics and principles we hold for ourselves and for our business. He has made racist remarks, denied lockdown while families are separated and people are dying alone, and insulted his own affiliates who chose to speak up in support of BIPOC communities and the Black Lives Matter movement. The apologies he has issued (when he has chosen to apologise) have not taken responsibility for his words or reparated for his actions and have even gone so far as to deny being racist.

Our affiliate is up for renewal in April 2021 and unless Greg Glassman steps down and has no involvement with the CrossFit brand, we will reconsider our CrossFit affiliate. We want to let our members know that we are proud of them and the community we have built together. And that our box will always be a safe, inclusive and supportive space for everyone.

We will be making donations to BLMUK to support the Black Lives Matter movement and to NHS Charities Together for the incredible work they have been doing to fight Covid-19.

Please do reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.
