Welcome to Unit 22

Following Greg Glassman and CrossFit HQ’s remarks (and its handling afterwards) regarding Black Lives Matter in June 2020, their treatment of affiliates who chose to speak out in support of BLM and hold Glassman and the CrossFit platform to account, as well as accusations of assault, we have decided to permanently disaffiliate from CrossFit. This will not come into effect until our renewal in April 2021 but we have made the decision to rebrand and remove our association with CrossFit completely.

We would like to say a huge and heartfelt thank you to our members for their consultation and support of this change. It has allowed us to do a small rebrand that brings the gym in line with our values and our community and we are very excited for the gym’s future.

Since we opened as CrossFit Basepoint just over a year ago in May 2019, it is our community that has made our space so special and we are incredibly proud of what we have built together and know our gym is one that will always be welcoming, friendly, fun and inclusive. We strongly believe that the gym is not just ours, but everyone’s.

As a result, our new name is Unit 22 and we are a gym co-operative. That means that all our members are able to comment, discuss and vote on changes to the gym and decisions, such as equipment, timetabling, classes, charities for donations, etc. We will also be stepping up as an active and positive member of our community and are committing to regular charity fundraisers and mentorship programmes for local fitness students, prioritising BAME students.
